Now playing at musica, courtesy of Michael Greenberg, is Eddie Cooley's version of his own co-composition (with Otis "John Davenport" Blackwell), "Fever," from the abovementioned "We Wrote 'Em And We Sing 'Em" LP. It'd be interesting to compare this to Blackwell's own version. At the same time, and also courtesy of Michael, I've posted a detail of the LP cover art, featuring photos of Cooley, Otis Blackwell and Lincoln Chase, as well as its liner notes, including the musician credits for this fascinating NYC session. I never knew it, but listening to "Danke Schoen" is sure is obvious. Di la, Rashkovsky -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

This is exciting news. Is this coming out through Hip-O select? (I can't imagine Universal would do such project through their normal retail division.) I've had this album on a Japanese CD for some time, but I'll certainly spring for the box. David Ponak -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

There's already a japanese CD with their songs. But in my opinion it doesn't feature the best versions. And don't forget all these beautiful Bergman lyrics. One of the best husband and wife teams ever. I might play Eydie Gormé's version of "Goin' Back" to musica over the weekend. It's so adult. I love it. He told of interesting story of how he heard the song and how angry Bobby Darin was about his (Chandler's) version getting out. gem -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
Message: 8 Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2004 13:18:34 -0400 From: Mikey Subject: Re: I never knew Yup, Wayne was NOT signed to Capitol, he was signed to Bobby Darin's Company, RWC Productions. The company had an open deal with Capitol Records. Bobby not only produced Wayne's early records, but Darin HIMSELF was going to cover "Danke Schoen," but he decided to give it to Wayne. Since I only know this song by them, is it typical for their sound? To speak with Harpers Bizarre: I love "soft soundin' music". The Faragher Brothers recorded as the "Mark Five" before forming the Peppermint Trolley Co. I just got their "I'm Through With You" single on Impression. They supposedly had 3 more 45s. Anyone have info about them? They did not release as Mark "IV." mrshawnn -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

I personally am an avid fan of the Vogues. However, I like the Smoke Ring's version of this song a tad better. Orion -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
