I've never heard this before, and I'm a fan of both. A wonderful thing, if it's true - how do we know this, Roger? Susan -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

Hi If you live in Denmark it should be quite easy to order the cds from a swedish company called Hot Stuff. I Haven't ordered from them in awhile but they are good, as far as I can remember. The website is http://www.hotstuff.se but make sure you type in se, or you will maybe get somewhere totally different, haha Albin L -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

In France (and many other European countries), Majority One records were released on Pink Elephant (same label as Shocking Blue, Aeroplane...) Message: 5 Date: Wed, 01 Oct 2003 12:56:18 EDT From: Bob Rashkow Subject: Artie, MFQ, etc Max Weiner asked about a lost song--the lyrics sound a little like "Evol Not Love" by the Five Americans, but that's probably not it 'cause that record is dominated by a series of punctuated drum rolls and their terrific organ. Max, does your song fade out with the group "Da-ta-tah"-ing the lyrics? If so, it could be this one! ! ! MFQ's "Don't You Wonder" is a nice tune I used to have a DJ copy of. Am looking for a copy of "Night Time Girl". Is the same song as recorded by the Down Children? I think I've got the right title, don't I? "Trust" as recorded by The Peppermint Trolley Company and written by Williams and Nichols is one of the most beautiful pop songs from '68, didn't blow me completely away like Jim Webb's "Montage" (preferably Picardy's version) did a month earlier, but it's gorgeous. Glad it was included in that comp. It's hard for me to believe the P.T.C. could have recorded anything better, but "Lollipop Train", a dynamite tune by Sloan and Barri (if not mistaken) is the one I consider to be their master cut! Artie Wayne, please tell us the end of the story. You got in the car, leaving Capitol Records, and cruised up into the hills, right? What happened after that :--/// And I have a question! Magill's Film Guide claims that in the movie version of "THE BOYS IN THE BAND", the opening credits play "Anything Goes" by the Lovin' Spoonful. Is this correct? Did John, Zal and the boys record this song at all? Have always thought it was Harper's Bizarre's tuneful, Association-reminiscent version that you hear watching Cliff Gorman walking his French poodle up Fifth Avenue. Message: 6 Date: Wed, 01 Oct 2003 07:06:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Artie Wayne Subject: Bobby Darin's "Lost Love" Country Paul..........How ya' doin'? Last week I went with Toni Wine and Allan Rinde to a 60s pool party that kicked off "Rocktober Fest" in Palm Springs. I had a chance to ask Billy Reed, who's performing with my friend Jay Siegal as a "Token", if he sang on or knew who sang background on "Lost Love" by Bobby Darin. He said he too loved the record but didn't know who was singing............he made a guess that J.R.Bailey [who sang with him in the Halos] did one of the parts. regards, Artie Wayne -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

Are they as good as > Consortium? I think Consortium had a better in house songwriter but yes I think they are as good. They took more of a turn toward "rock" than Consortium but at the heart both bands were harmony groups. The Majority had been billed in ads as "The British Beach Boys" where the Consortium have been called the British Association. Personally I think both bands were a little more original than they get credit for. > Also, I take it the Majority One recordings only came out in Europe > and not in the UK. Any idea what label they were on? I think the main label for Majority One was Pink Elephant but I had one single on London (Canada). > Are their records hard to come by? There seems to be a lot of people after the LP so that can go for good money. For the singles just search "Majority One" on eBay and you're likely to find one or two of their singles on any given day. The most common seems to be Because/Get Back Home. Both sides are good but the B-side is the standout and almost freakbeatish. -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
